Prescription Custom Orthotics and How They Work
A custom orthotic’s
purpose is to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles, but are tailor-made to fix your specific foot imbalance. Like eyeglasses, they are fitted
to your exact needs.
Custom orthotics reduces stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. The orthotic’s
plastic body helps to realign the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motions that take place during the gait cycle. Our orthotics fit comfortably into your shoes like an insole – and they have the advantage of being made from precise imprints of your feet.
They match the contours of your feet precisely and are designed for the way you move. Orthotics are only manufactured after a podiatrist has conducted a complete evaluation of your feet, ankles, and legs, so the orthotic
can accommodate your unique foot structure and pathology.
Orthotics typically cost more than shoe inserts purchased over the counter, but the additional cost is usually well worth it. Because our orthotics are molded to fit your foot, you know they'll fit properly and do what they are supposed to do.
Prescription orthotics are made of top-notch materials and last for years with proper care. Insurance often helps pay for prescription orthotics.
Before prescribing orthotics, Dr. Teitelbaum will examine your feet and how you walk. He will listen carefully to your complaints and concerns and assess the movement and function of your lower extremities.

Orthotics--Custom or Pre-formed?
Orthotics make your heels feel better and make you more efficient in sports. Almost all professional athletes experiment with orthotics or use them, because for them 3 or 4% increase in muscular efficiency can be the difference between being very good and a champion.
For most people, maybe 80% ot them, custom made orthotics are not a necessity. Unless you are a professional, or have aspirations to be your club champion, custom orthotics are required. Most people have mild to moderate deformities, or pronation that can be adequately dealt with by pre-formed, or off the shelf orthotics. At Naples Podiatry Center we carry four types of pre-forms that can treat a wide range of foot types. Also, with pre-forms, you can get orthotics for styled regular shoes (men's and women's) and have two pairs of orthotics for $150.00 We also can fashion pre-forms for sandals. We use adhesive velcro strips, fore and aft, to anchor the orthotic to a shoe that has minimal structure.
The possibilities are multiple with orthotics that don't break the bank.
